Gardaí in Leitrim are appealing for witnesses following a fatal single-vehicle road traffic collision involving a tractor at Aghavilla, Carrigallen, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 3.10pm and a male passenger of the tractor, aged in his late teens, was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

Travellers have been banned from bringing cattle, sheep, goat, pigmeat and dairy products from all EU countries into Britain in order to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). This includes bringing items like sandwiches, cheese, cured meats, raw meats or milk into Britain – regardless of whether it is packed or packaged or whether it has been bought at duty free.

The Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association (ICMSA) has questioned whether farmers have been underselling beef for years given the rocketing cattle prices of recent weeks. ICMSA livestock committee chair Michael O'Connell said that factories are presenting today’s prices as “freak, as it were”. “Whoever thought we would see the day of €8/kg for prime beef and it raises the question: have we been underselling our beef for years, leaving factories with a phenomenal margin per kg of product?

The Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) has agreed new payment terms for landowners with ESB and Eirgrid for the placing of electricity lines and cables on their lands. One covers compensation and goodwill payments to landowners for the refurbishment and up-rate of existing 110kV and 220kV overhead electric lines on their lands. The other covers compensation and goodwill payments to landowners in respect of the placing of new 110kV, 220kV, 400kV transmission underground electric cables on land.

From Mitchelstown, Co Cork, Moher’s career spans over 30 years in the co-op sector.
