Is this the Wheel of Fortune? In grade school and high school, I did not impress my teachers with my writing. In fact, I was usually afraid to write and share the product. But 62 years ago in my junior year of high school and during JFK’s presidency, a miracle hit. As a young teen, I would go with my dad to his bowling league on Tuesday nights at Riverside Bowl. I sat in the row of tables behind the bowling allies, did some homework, and watched my dad’s team kick butt — sometimes.

Last week, we had the difficult job of reporting on a tragic situation at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Ultimately, we learned that two young women had been killed by gunshot wounds — one of them self-inflicted. The shootings happened inside a dorm room in Wilgus Hall on campus.

Something caught my eye in a recent edition of AARP: The Magazine. Yes, I read AARP: The Magazine. I am that old. There are always good book recommendations. And it's fun to see who is featured on the cover and go, "Wait! That person is super old too?? Who knew?" Sort of like this particular issue, which featured Drew Barrymore. Could the little cutie from "E.T." seriously be old enough for AARP? Yep. She turned 50 a couple months ago.
