Gareth Pierce, who first appeared as Todd Grimshaw in Coronation Street five years ago, has been at the heart of numerous storylines. Todd, the offspring of long-standing character Eileen Grimshaw, has weathered a confrontation with mobster Mick Chaney and navigated tense relations with Eileen's partner, George Shuttleworth. More recently Todd's head has been turned by handsome new arrival Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) with the pair sharing a kiss during recent scenes of the ITV show.

[This interview first appeared in the January/February 2025 issue of Writer's Digest magazine.]Death Violations Trilogy, Sisters of the Wild Sage, Kill Three Birds (Cyberpunk noir, weird westerns, fantasy mysteries; Mocha Memoirs Press)Why self-publish? I received my first publishing contract in 1998 from an online small press. Before my book reached the editing phase, the company closed. I had already submitted the manuscript to agents and traditional publishers for several years prior.

Generate Key TakeawaysPushing BoundariesSometimes, the most exciting writing is that which confounds expectations. Writing that combines tropes, ideas, or different genres in unexpected ways to create something entirely new. Or novels that mix interactive elements with traditional storytelling to guide, or even misguide, readers (think: Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr).

I won @NaNoWriMo today! I wrote every day in Nov. & hit 50k words on a novel draft. They’re not great words & it’s not a complete draft, but I like the story & it’s more than I’ve written since @ErinLFlanagan’s novel writing class in grad school over a decade ago. 🎉🎉
