    Key points Among older veterans reentering the community after incarceration, those who had contact with the Health Care for Reentry Veterans (HCRV) program had a higher burden of psychiatric disorders and medical conditions commonly linked to substance use disorders as compared to older reentry veterans with no HCRV contact. Older reentry veterans with HCRV contact had fewer days between release date and first date of healthcare services use and had higher healthcare utilization rates.
