    LAGRANGE – The fourth annual Summer Arts Festival is Saturday on the courthouse lawn in downtown LaGrange. Twenty-eight artists registered to exhibit from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They include photographers, a weaver, a ceramicist, vintage glass art, a couple of potters, several artists that draw and sketch, painters, a woman who will be demonstrating tattoo art on leather, a glasswork artist, a writer, a watercolor artist and others.

    LAGRANGE — Members of Lakeland High School’s first graduating class participated in the Class of 2025 graduation ceremony Sunday in the Farmers State Bank Gymnasium. “Sixty years ago the Class of 1963 became the first graduating class of Lakeland,” said Principal Jason Schackow. “They came here today to be part of your celebration.”Thirteen members of the class planned to attend on Sunday, having gathered at the Van Buren Hotel in Shipshewana for a reunion.

    COLUMBIA CITY — Old Settlers Days rolls into Columbia City on June 13 with a skating party at Happy Valley Rink, 625 W. Old Trail Road. Hosted by Hill Top Tavern, 7-9:30 p.m., the skating party is followed by a tractor drive through town by the Shrine Antique Power Club on June 14, starting at 10 a.m. on North Whitley Street. The midway opens at 5 p.m. June 17 followed by the opening ceremony at 8 p.m., featuring the Whitley County division of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir.

    TOPEKA – LaGrange County Trails is committed to Hawpatch Trail for the long haul, and at Tuesday night’s meeting at the Topeka Fire Station, members of the nonprofit trails organization encouraged the community to get on board too. Planning began seven years ago, and at the end of last year the LaGrange County Community Foundation received a $5 million Lilly Endowment grant for Hawpatch Trail. The Community Foundation continues its support with a matching grant.
