The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts Summer 2025 will be a "real scorcher" for most of the country. Considering that Savannah chalked up highs in the upper 80s and lows in the low 70s for most of the month of May, about three to five degrees warmer than the normal range of temperatures, we think the almanac may get it right this year. This time of the year in Savannah is when you think, "This is why I live here!"The azaleas show off in all their vivid splendor. A light jacket gets you through the morning but you can shed the layers by mid-day. The sun brightens the bluest skies without making you feel like you've been baked from the inside-out like a microwave oven. Were it not for the sand gnats―Still, spring in Savannah makes us want to eat outside at a sidewalk bistro or in the park or under oaks backlit by a full moon.

And then there were four. Our search for the ultimate Savannah dish narrowed after round 2 of voting. Shrimp 'n' Grits bested Crab Cakes with 67% of the vote in that contest, giving it an edge in its next match with Fried Green Tomatoes, which won over Crispy Scored Flounder with 55% of the votes. Lowcountry Boil―in a sincere shock to the newsroom―topped Roasted Oysters with 63% of the tally. Perhaps the seasonality of those briny bombs sunk their odds.
