Often times, I feel like VTubers are sleeping on the hidden power of VRChat. I mean, yes, plenty of popular Twitch streamers are avid VRChat users. MurderCrumpet, Buni, SokkzVR, and Saeko all come to mind immediately. But as a VRChat content creator myself, I believe many VTubers just aren’t aware of the possibilities VRC offers. The platform has become incredibly advanced, featuring a wide assortment of gorgeous avatars to behold as well as breathtaking worlds to explore.

“VTubers! We need to write about VTubers!” Ah, I remember the strategy conversations now. At my old job, I insisted that we hop on the VTuber SEO train before other publications beat us to the punch. Apparently, I was on to something. Last month, I reported on Steam’s most popular VTubing software and concluded that more people are experimenting with VTubing than ever before. It also turns out more Americans are also searching things up about VTubing.

VTubing is an incredible hobby, but it can also be an expensive one. Doubly so if you want a Live2D model, the gold standard in 2D VTubing. Commissioning a rig and a model can cost thousands of dollars, especially if you’re seeking out some of the top creators in the field. Is it worth the price? Absolutely, without a doubt. But unless you’re rich (and if you are, DM me), Live2D probably isn’t your first choice for VTubing.

Did you want a VTuber in a Hideo Kojima project? Good news. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set to star Hololive favorite Usada Pekora, one of the most well recognized Japanese VTubers across the entire industry. While Pekora’s inclusion certainly puzzled some, I’m inclined to agree with my fellow Waypoint contributor Brent Koepp: Bring on everyone’s favorite rabbit-themed VTuber. Why not?

“Ana,” one of my furry VRChat friends said. “You’re way more plugged into egirl VRC than we are I think.” That remark came up after I showed him my VRChat avatar listicle from last week. I posted the link in a group chat with spooji, the Mamehinata avatar user I mentioned. Spooji quickly recognized the GodMagician avatar, but despite seeing her everywhere in VRChat, he never knew the creator’s name.
