On Nov. 2, U.S. diplomat and former Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice spoke at Pomona College’s Bridges Auditorium about foreign and domestic policy for the seventh annual Payton Distinguished Lectureship. Rice has held various positions as a diplomat, including assistant secretary of state for African Affairs, national security advisor and head of the Domestic Policy Council.

On Oct. 24, Danny Widener gave the second lecture in Pomona College’s Connections series titled “Corner Stories: Place and Time in South Central LA,” where he spoke about the history of social movements in Los Angeles and their links to wider global struggles. From April 4-7 at Pomona College’s Seaver Theater, enraptured audiences came out for this semester’s Mainstage production, “Kentucky.” Directed by Margaret Starbuck and written by Leah Nanako Winkler, the play explores the complicated nature of how heritage shapes life trajectories. The play’s narrative centers around Hiro, a New York City transplant, played by Jasmine Zhu PO ’24, who must return to her hometown in rural Kentucky for her sister’s wedding.

Palestinian Liberation Week concluded on the second day of its “final show of force” on Friday, March 29 on the Smith Campus Center (SCC) lawn. The day’s events, including organizing workshops and speakers, were held on the lawn among tents set up by students as part of their ongoing sleep-in to protect a mock apartheid wall they had set up the day prior.
