When J.D. Arnold took over the Mount Zion baseball program, he inherited a lot of young faces with not a lot of experience. Four years later, those players ended their careers with the program's first regional title and 20-win season since 2018 to complete Arnold's rebuild. With a 5-2 loss to Champaign Central in Thursday's 3A sectional semifinal, that era came to a close after an impressive season this year.

A 4-3 loss in the super-sectionals to Sacred Heart Griffin meant the end for a senior class that's had four straight 20-win seasons. Carter Foran pitchesCarter Foran pitches in a 12-3 win over Maroa-Forsyth on Monday. Foran got the start and win for the Sages.

The Sages went 27-6 this year with regional and sectional titles, getting a third regional title in four years despite a couple of key injuries ahead of the season, including lineup staple Matt Schwartz.
