    It’s not hard to figure out what inspires Steve Kaczmarek, who founded Borealis Fat Bikes in Colorado Springs 12 years ago. Just consider the names of a few of his bikes: Kaczmarek’s first bike was “The Yampa.” There’s “The Crestone,” and the e-bike is “The Keystone.” “Everything we do has a Colorado theme,” Kaczmarek said. “All of our bikes have the Colorado flag on them. We just have great fun being from Colorado.”  Fat bikes took off right around the time Kaczmarek started the company.

    Durango has a speed problem. And in the interest of public safety and reducing accidents, the City of Durango has announced a new Speed-Management Plan. But first it wants to hear what you have to say. Through May, the City is conducting an online survey on speed and safety on city streets. “Public participation is essential to creating a plan that addresses community concerns in a way that works best for the community,” Devin King, City of Durango multimodal manager said.

    Create Art and Tea may have closed its doors earlier this month, but the nonprofit Art Guild of Create Durango that was housed there is still going strong. According to Create Art and Tea owner and guild founder Caprice Fox, the guild is now based in the Smiley Building, where itshares a space with the Butterfly Artist Collective, another local artist organization. Create first opened in the Durango Arts Center in 2018 before relocating to 1015 Main Ave. a few years ago.
