June 23, 2025 Back in April, the veteran Justice Department lawyer Erez Reuveni was in court, representing the government in the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the man the government mistakenly deported to El Salvador. The judge peppered Reuveni with questions: How was Abrego Garcia seized? What authority did law enforcement officers have to take him from his car? “So, Your Honor, my answer to a lot of these questions is going to be frustrating,” Reuveni responded.

June 12, 2025 Michele Santa Maria was 18 and a year out of high school when she landed a job at the Social Security Administration’s field office in Chula Vista, Calif., in May 1990. She started out answering phones and sorting mail. From there, she worked her way up to customer service, helping people resolve problems with their payments or get new cards. Later, she learned how to process all kinds of claims — retirement claims, survivor claims, family claims, disability claims.

Back in early March, Massachusetts Agriculture Commissioner Ashley Randle sent a letter to the new U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, voicing congratulations — and a number of concerns. Randle, a fifth-generation dairy farmer, shared that USDA's freeze on grants — imposed before Rollins was sworn in — had left Massachusetts farmers in limbo, wondering if they'd ever be reimbursed for investments they'd made based on those grants. She also sounded the alarm on positions that had been cut.
