Sadly, irritation is a regular experience in marriage. The things that produce irritation would be laughable if they didn’t produce such angst. The way we eat, our level of tidiness, the way we dispose of the air our body produces, habits of hygiene, varying definitions of politeness, different ideas of joking. These are just a small sample of the things that can contribute to tension in marriage.

I’m picky when it comes to movies. (My husband would say I’m very picky.) One plot line I detest is when someone young or inexperienced trusts the wrong person. Like Fantine in Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables, whose vulnerability makes her an easy target for the cruel. I shudder when I think about her and all she lost.
