    When my pastors approached me about teaching women’s Sunday school, I was intimidated. I love teaching the Bible, but the majority of women who attend the class are at least 40 years older than me—and 40 times godlier. What could I offer these women who’ve faithfully followed Jesus for longer than I’ve been alive? But my pastors and future coteacher were persistent. So I got a teacher’s guide and began preparing to teach the wise women of Grace Baptist Church.

    I sat in the pew next to one of my students, both of us dabbing tears as we listened to words about her classmate and my former student who passed away a few days prior. Everyone who knew Kyleigh knew she loved Jesus. Her evident faith gave us immense peace as we mourned. Later, I spoke with a colleague who’s a fellow believer. She doesn’t often speak about her faith in the classroom, but being a Christian is intimately tied to her identity and many of her students know this about her.

    Depression. Just the word itself is depressing, and it carries all manner of stigma. Who wants to be depressed? More to the point, who wants to be labeled as depressed? The answer to both of these questions is obvious to most, yet so many people are in denial about the magnitude and implications of their depression. Most of us know there are several different forms of intervention, both therapeutic and psychopharmacological, that can cater to depression.
