SHARON, Pa. – Another lifeline has been extended to Sharon Regional Medical System with an agreement between the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Medical Properties Trust to undergo mediation regarding the value of the hospital real estate that MPT owns. The agreement to enter mediation was reached Monday, according to the date of the stipulation and agreed ordered filed today at noon in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Houston.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Midnight Wednesday is the deadline to file objections to Insight Health System of Flint, Mich., becoming the new owner of Trumbull Regional Medical Center in Warren and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in Howland. Steward Health Care System filed a motion late Friday informing U.S. Bankruptcy Court that Medical Properties Trust has selected separate foundations established by Insight to buy the hospitals. Insight is based in Flint, Mich.

WARREN, Ohio – Western Reserve Health Education Inc., the nonprofit provider of graduate medical education at Trumbull Regional Medical Center, says it submitted a proposal Aug. 28 to Steward Health Care System to buy the hospital and it has secured $20.5 million in interim financing for Steward to continue operations until WRHE takes ownership. In court papers filed late Thursday, WRHE said it is “awaiting a response” from Steward. Terms of the purchase proposal were not disclosed.

SHARON, Pa. – The Pennsylvania attorney general says Steward Health Care Services is demanding “interim emergency funding” to keep Sharon Regional Medical Center from being closed. In a bankruptcy court notice filed late this morning, Steward is quoted as threatening, “We require $1.5 million from Pennsylvania by Friday August 23, 2024 – or we will send a closure notice.”Steward says it’s being pressured by lenders who are “demanding hospitals be closed immediately.
