In the first two months of 2025, Tesla’s sales in Europe dropped by 42.6% compared to the same period last year, with its market share for battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) falling from 21.6% to 10.3%. The European Commission has introduced its proposal for a 2040 climate target, recommending that the European Union (EU) reduce its net greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by that year compared to 1990 levels. The EU currently has a 2030 emissions reduction target — to slash emissions by at least 55% compared to 1990. The 2040 target is the “next intermediate step” toward climate neutrality, the EU Commission explains.

Nearly 55 million people in West and Central Africa will struggle to feed themselves in the June-August 2024 lean season, according to the March 2024 Cadre Harmonisé food security analysis released by the Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS).
