A Northumberland lifeboat has been put through its paces to ensure it’s ready to come to the aid of those in peril at sea. Amble RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat (ALB) Elizabeth and Leonard recently linked up with the Newbiggin and Blyth Atlantic 85 lifeboats, Blyth's D class inshore lifeboat and also the Humber-based Coast Guard helicopter, to test the search and rescue skills of the crews.

Gillingham have made Andy Smith their latest summer signing after the central defender sealed a permanent move to Priestfield. The 23-year-old spent time on loan at MEMS Priestfield Stadium last season, making 12 appearances in all competitions having also enjoyed loan spells with Salford and Cheltenham and has signed a three year deal for an undisclosed fee. He follows Sam Vokes to ME7 with the former Wycombe striker having agreed a one-year deal.

Kent secured a historic three-peat as they clinched the Bill Beaumont County Championship Division 1 title following a 39-32 win over Yorkshire at Twickenham. It was a lightning start from Yorkshire as a blistering move was rounded off by Hull Ionians’ George Mewburn before Luke Boon (Tonbridge Juddians) responded for the holders. Mewburn rumbled over again, with Kent replying via the eye-catching Mac Duaibe before the boots of the impressive Sam Evans and Lewis Minikin came into play.

Ethan Fang of the United States of America and Ireland’s Gavin Tiernan will meet in the 36-hole Final of The 130th Amateur Championship at Royal St George’s tomorrow. After starting the week with 288-players in the field, Fang and Tiernan are the final two golfers remaining in the prestigious championship, winning their quarter-final and semi-final matches on the sunny Sandwich Bay coast today.

Ethan Fang of the United States faced a tough challenge during the second day of match play at The 130th Amateur Championship to book his place in Friday’s quarter-final showdown at Royal St George’s. The 20-year-old Oklahoma State student rallied in both matches to secure his place in the last eight after coming from three-down to beat top qualifier Connor Graham of Scotland on the 20th hole in the morning before defeating Milan Reed in convincing fashion this afternoon.

The first round of match play provided plenty of drama at Royal St George’s as Connor Graham, Tommy Morrison, Ethan Fang and Dominic Clemons all progressed to the last-32 at The 130th Amateur Championship. Back-to-back medalist Graham needed three extra holes in his opening match, Morrison went to the 23rd hole in his opening tie, while other top contenders Fang and Clemons held off their opponents in tightly contested matches.

Scotland’s Connor Graham has repeated history to claim top qualifying honours at The 130th Amateur Championship at Royal St George’s and Royal Cinque Ports. For a second consecutive year, Graham has finished atop the leaderboard after 36-holes of stroke play qualifying, a shot ahead of the field, with a nine-under-par aggregate of 133.
