Hayleigh Bloomfield, who works in the neurology department at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, has created a pain management protocol for patients living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

A member of staff at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has received a major accolade on the anniversary of one of the greatest advances in eye surgery in the last century. David Lockington, Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Tennent Institute, Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow, has taken over as President of the UK and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS).

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has launched an appeal asking patients who are currently prescribed lidocaine patches – prescribed under common names such as Ralvo or Versatis – to contact their GP practice and ask to be referred to the GP practice pharmacy team to discuss if their prescription is still right for them. The appeal – named ‘The Evidence is Patchy’ – aims to reduce inappropriate use of these patches, and to tackle the significant costs associated with them.

A barrier refers to the force that helps persist those higher returns (defeating arbitrage). Benefit conditions aren’t rare, but barrier conditions are. Look to the barrier first. Power, unlike strength, is a relative concept.

A woman who underwent a highly specialised brain operation while she was awake, has thanked the team at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde who cared for her – and singled out one member of staff who was “like a second mum” to her throughout the process. Earlier this summer Brooke MacFadyen, 24, from Coatbridge, underwent Awake Craniotomy, a procedure used to remove primary brain tumours.

The Institute for Neurological Sciences in Glasgow has performed the first operation in the UK – and is only the third centre worldwide – that uses Mixed Reality (MR) technology to allow the surgeon to “see inside” a patient’s body during surgery. The Institute is operated by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde providing highly specialised care for patients throughout Scotland – and the fact the MR procedure took place there cements its place as an international centre of excellence and innovation.
