The money was awarded last financial year as part of the Farming in Protected Landscapes (FIPL) scheme, run by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). The FIPL scheme pays farmers and land managers who improve land within protected areas such as National Parks. The event held on Friday, May 30 was organised by the North East Ambulance Service, Hexham Freemasons, and the Rotary Club of Hexham. Norman Wicks from Hexham Rotary, and Dunmail Hodkinson and Alan Clayton, first responders from the North East Ambulance Service, led the event. They explained how defibrillators work, how to perform CPR, and how to identify a patient who needs the device. A practical session then helped attendees have a go at using the defibrillator and performing CPR.
