With jury selection complete and a last-minute motions hearing out of the way, Karen Read's retrial on murder and other charges in the death of Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe is finally set to kick off with opening statements next week. The 45-year-old former financial analyst and adjunct professor is accused of hitting her then-boyfriend with a Lexus SUV after a drunken argument, then fleeing the scene and leaving him to die in the cold during a blizzard.

A full roster of jurors and alternates has been selected in the second murder trial of Karen Read, a former financial adviser accused of killing her Boston cop boyfriend John O'Keefe in a drunken hit-and-run after an argument during a blizzard in January 2022. All 12 jurors and six alternates were empaneled Tuesday, clearing the way for opening statements. The case had needed just two more jurors since Friday came to a close with 16 of 18 selected.

Jury selection for Karen Read's retrial on murder and other charges in the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend, John O'Keefe, resumes Thursday with just one more seat to fill. The court requires 12 deliberating jurors and four alternates. At the end of the day on Wednesday, there were 15 people chosen, clearing the way for an expected start to opening statements next week.
