Published: 12:15, 15 April 2025 The Highlands’ first transgender councillor is in the running to replace Fergus Ewing as the SNP candidate for Inverness and Nairn at next year’s Scottish Parliament election. Councillor Sarah Fanet, who represents Fort William and Ardnamurchan, became the first openly trans elected official in Scotland when she won a by-election in December 2021, and earlier this year reportedly passed vetting by the party for a spot at Holyrood.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s League One rivals Dumbarton have confirmed they are closing in on their own escape from administration. The Sons followed Caley Thistle into financial difficulty earlier this season, with their 15-point deduction being confirmed just three weeks after Inverness had suffered the same fate. However, in Dumbarton’s case the situation was slightly different.

Billy Mckay has admitted he may have a decision to make over where his future lies at Inverness Caledonian Thistle this summer. The 36-year-old striker has been part of the coaching team in the Highland capital since Caley Thistle were plunged into administration at the end of October, combining the role with his playing duties. He has still played a key part for the club this season, making 40 appearances across all competitions.
