The book begins: “Within the last decade medical professional practice has become a major threat to health.” On an epic mission to eradicate suffering, medicine had reduced mankind's ability to cope with illness and pain and to preside over its own dying. Ineffective, unsafe, and often unnecessary treatments had led to iatrogenic harm.
