After nearly four years of waiting, Eric Church came back in a big way today with the release of his 8th studio album, Evangeline vs. The Machine, and as promised, it’s unlike anything we’ve ever heard…Full orchestra, horns, choirs, and of course his traditional band, this project combines elements of blue, soul, country, rock, and gospel as only Chief can. Admittedly, I’m going to need some time to sit with it before having a real opinion on it, but at first listen, I think like it.

This one’s for the Big Dog Daddy…When news broke that Toby Keith’s horse, Render Judgment, was tapped to run in the 151st Kentucky Derby this weekend, country music fans were absolutely fired up, as many knew that it was a long time dream of his to have a horse run in The Run for the Roses. It was Toby’s dream….Render Judgement is going to the @KentuckyDerby. He worked so hard to finally have one there! Toby will have the best seat in the house to watch.

In the town of Redding, California sits a restaurant named Lulu’s. In the corner of that restaurant sits a booth where Merle Haggard regularly parked himself to relax and eat his favorite meal, which, like him, was a bit strange in all the right ways. Lulu’s was founded in 1978, named for a woman that “came from a very questionable past in old San Francisco’s Barbary Coast”; pictures of this enigmatic woman can be found on stained glass windows and on the menu.

More details are coming out regarding the “mass casualty” boating accident in Clearwater, Florida earlier this week. In the final days of the Sugar Sand Festival, where artists create absolutely incredible sand sculptures on Clearwater Beach, a ferry was transporting 45 people when a 37-foot boat slammed into it, tragically killing one person and sending at 12 others to the hospital. Early reports said the boat then fled the scene and was picked up by law enforcement three miles south.
