city politics Mike Braun and Micah Beckwith were sworn into Indiana’s governorship and lieutenant governorship at a ceremony starting 11 a.m. Monday, the culmination of a three-day ceremony and hard-fought campaign. Braun is now the state’s 52nd governor, solidifying four more years following two decades of Republican rule. Alongside Braun and Beckwith was Todd Rokita, who has begun his second term as attorney general.

city crime & courts A man was shot and killed Thursday night in the Crestmont neighborhood, according to the Bloomington Police Department’s daily summary. Police responded to a report around 10:28 p.m. of shots fired, and found Brian Thacker, 48, with a gunshot wound. They applied lifesaving measures and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. BPD handcuffed and took a suspect to its police station.

city bloomington Monroe County councilor Cheryl Munson died Tuesday after decades of service to the county. She was 80. She was surrounded by family and friends, B Square Bulletin reported, after a period of illness that made her unable to attend the county council’s meetings since mid-September. The council postponed its Tuesday meeting. Munson was elected to her fourth term on the council in November. She moved to Monroe County in 1971 when her husband accepted a job at IU.
