Photography by Victoria GomezThe first time Jack Parrish flew a plane, he was four years old, sitting on his father’s lap in what he thinks is Stearman. Flying is hereditary for the Parrish family. His grandfather Lieutenant Roger Parrish was a commander of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and later became a pilot for American Airlines. His 23-year-old brother Michael is a flight instructor.

A number of North Texans once again gathered at The Shops at Legacy in Plano to attend a drag brunch Sunday afternoon. PepperSmash hosted another iteration of its Sass & Smash Drag Brunch. The 18+ event, hosted by drag queen Adecia Lush, took place from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.Drag performers danced and interacted with guests, receiving cash tips and performing acrobatic feats. There was also a birthday celebration for one of the drag queens, complete with a cake.

The threat of severe storms did not keep dozens of Dallas residents from working to clean up their community. Dallas Park and Recreation partnered with local “de-extinction” company Colossal Biosciences to put on a community park cleanup event on Saturday to round out Earth Week. The event took place at  Ferguson Park in northeastern Dallas from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.The Dallas Express arrived shortly after the cleanup event began.

Texas Congressman Marc Veasey has presented a federal Community Project Funding check totaling $1 million to support the development of a local park. Harold Simmons Park is a forthcoming 250-acre park that will border Margaret McDermott Bridge and Ronald Kirk Bridge and connect neighboring communities such as West Dallas, Oak Cliff, and Dallas’ downtown area.
