It goes without saying that the Switch 2 showcase and its announcements will be the biggest news of the year, but it was soured somewhat by an egotistical and elitist decision by Nintendo. They decided to make the greedy decision to charge money for what is nothing more than an interactive manual. Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour is a neat idea for a game to showcase the unique features of the Switch 2.

2024 was a stellar year for games, with a ton of standout releases. You had indie games made by small teams dominate the industry, as well as AAA games polished to a high sheen. So many genres had incredible releases, so just about everyone had something new and awesome to mess around with. Here are the nominees for TechRaptor's 2024 Game of the Year Award for the best game of the year, whose sum of its parts is greater than any other.

AAA games feel like what we gravitate to when we want our mind blown or absolutely saturated in something, whether that's an insanely detailed world or crazy action. Indie games have a much wider variety, and because by necessity they have to have a great hook or idea to form a game around, those that usually see the most success are also the most interesting games of the year.

Pixels sure looked good in 2024, didn't they? We've been a few years removed from all of AAA just having to focus on realism in graphics, and the results of that have been awesome.
