Mark Carney has only been prime minister for a few weeks, but that hasn’t stopped some from changing their F*CK TRUDEAU flags to pay homage to the new boss. A pair of F*CK CARNEY flags now fly in front of a Perkinsfield home along with another supporting U.S. President Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. Some say the flags are offensive, especially given the current state of the U.S./Canada relationship, and Trump’s propensity to stir things up with anybody, anywhere at anytime.

Midland Flyers head coach Dave Gillespie, who grew up in Oro Station, is being remembered as "one of the good guys" by the local hockey community. Gillespie, who passed away recently at the age of 56 after a brief health battle, also served as president and general manager of the junior C club and enjoyed a career playing for a number of local elite teams in the 1980s. The Flyers organization says that Gillespie was the heart and soul of the team.

A local animal sanctuary could use a little help from its friends. Ralphy’s Retreat is holding a volunteer work day Saturday to help repair some of its infrastructure and homes badly damaged by the recent ice storm and subsequent power outage. “We are reaching out to you with a heavy heart and a desperate plea for help,” the animal sanctuary located near Waverley notes. “Since the start of 2025, Ralphy’s has been struck by crisis after crisis.
