Sadistic killer and serial rapist Steven Francis has been jailed for a minimum of 28 years - and will probably die behind bars. Francis, 59, was found guilty of murdering Louisa Hall in a brutal and sustained attack at his flat in Little London, Leeds. Francis, a cocaine user who has heart problems, will be in his late 80s before he can be considered for parole. Louisa Hall, 43, a sex worker, suffered more than 117 injuries in the attack in October 2023.

A man convicted of the murder of Leeds woman Louisa Hall is due to be sentenced today at Leeds Crown Court. Sadistic Steven Francis stripped and strangled sex worker Louisa Hall, 43, at his flat in Little London, Leeds, in October 2023. A pathologist found more than 100 injuries to her chest, head, stomach, legs and arms. Some had been inflicted with a weapon. Francis was found guilty of murder by a jury at Leeds Crown Court earlier this week.

British Transport Police detectives have released images of a man they want to speak to about a sexual assault that took place on a train. Detectives are investigating the sexual assault which happened on board a train between Leeds and Doncaster. Officers are appealing for public help to identify the man in the photos. The man who carried out the attack got off the train at Doncaster, police said.

A section of the A64 York Road in Leeds is currently closed, according to traffic monitors. The AA and Inrix are reporting the A64 York Road is closed westbound at the B6159 Selby Road, the Halton Dial. The alert was issued in the early hours of the morning. A murder investigation has been launched after two people were killed in an inner-city area of Manchester. Police are currently at the scene on Great Southern Street in the Moss Side area of the city. One man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. There are reports that the victims had been stabbed. Emergency services were called to the scene at about 5am today. Two people were treated at the scene as paramedics responded to the incident, but sadly both were pronounced dead.

A report has been published into the 'overkilling' knife attack on a young Leeds woman by her former partner. The Domestic Homicide Review into the murder of Poppy Devey Waterhouse by Joe Atkinson includes distressing detail about the ferociousness of the attack because her family insisted that what happened should be described in full. Her family also asked for her real name to the used in the review, rather than it being anonymised which is the usual practice.

Police have launched an appeal for the unsolved murder of a man killed 43 years ago. James 'Jimmy' Adams, 46, was stabbed 22 times on May 26 1981 shortly after he had left a pub where he worked as a glass collector. After finishing Jimmy was seen stopping at a block of public toilets in Bradford at around 12.45am.

A family has spoken of the "miracle" survival of a teenager following a car crash which left him with a severe brain injury. Cohen Gareis had just turned 17 when he was so seriously injured in a crash last June that it was feared he might not survive. He was unresponsive for months after a car in which he was a passenger hit a wall on Thick Hollins Road, Meltham, UK and and rolled over several times. Five people in the car were taken to hospital, with two badly injured.
