A United Parcel Service (UPS) driver who was intoxicated when he crashed his semi-trailer delivery truck has been denied workers’ compensation benefits. Delaware Superior Court Judge Kathleen Vavala last week reversed a state Industrial Accident Board (IAB) ruling that Timothy Willis was entitled to benefits. The judge found that the IAB abused its discretion and ignored both evidence and the law when it granted benefits to Willis.

Lehigh Valley Health Network has agreed to a $65 million settlement of a class action with patients and employees affected by a 2023 ransomware attack that exposed personal and medical information including nude photos of patients. Every settlement class member is to receive payment, ranging from $50 to $70,000; with the maximum going to those had their hacked nude photos published online.

Jatiek Smith was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff after being convicted following a bench trial in December 2023 of racketeering and extortion conspiracies.

A Connecticut Appeals Court has affirmed that an insurer is not obligated to provide actual notice of a home insurance nonrenewal; proof that the insurer sent the notice by registered or certified mail is sufficient. The homeowners claimed they never saw the certified letter about their policy’s nonrenewal that National General Insurance Co. mailed to them in 2020, weeks before their house was destroyed in an accidental fire.
