First pitch is set for the second annual Home Runs for the Hungry on May 4. The game features a mix of past and present Barrie Baycats players, plus local celebrities and other athletes. Ward 2 councillor Craig Nixon says the plan is for the game to be a yearly event helping the community. “We're definitely planning on making this an annual event. We had a great time last year and we just see it getting bigger and bigger every year,”Nixon said.

Image of cut wire- via Huntsville OPPHuntsville OPP is investigating the theft of copper wire, causing an estimated $10,000 worth of damages. Authorities say the theft occurred between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on April 4, from a utility pole near Greer Road in Huntsville. According to police, the unknown parties severed and removed the approximately 1000 lbs of wire before loading it into their pickup truck.

Barrie Police have charged a 34-year-old Wednesday morning after he refused to leave an apartment building stairwell. Authorities say they received a report of an unknown man sleeping in the stairwell of an apartment building on Wellington Street. According to police, the man entered the building as an actual tenant even though he was not. After making his way to the third floor, police say they found him sleeping in the stairwell.

Huntsville OPP has arrested and charged a driver after they say he rear-ended a vehicle at a seatbelt enforcement check. According to police, on March 31, the driver struck the other vehicle on Highway 60 to Highway 11 southbound.

In partnership with Barrie Transit and Pattison Outdoor Advertising, five city buses will display an image of 27-year-old Autumn Shaganash for the rest of April. Along with the buses, digital billboards will also display the image around the city.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP has charged and arrested a Midland driver with impaired after he was found to be intoxicated in a parked car. While patrolling at around 1:07 p.m. on Friday, police say they noticed an illegally parked vehicle in a lot on County Road 93 in Midland. Authorities say the person behind the wheel appeared to be asleep.

Orillia OPP’s ‘proactive efforts’ led to two charges in four hours on April 4. Police say while patrolling the area of West St S, they conducted a traffic stop at around 7:55 p.m. The stop occurred after authorities observed a traffic violation. Following their investigation, OPP charged the 45-year-old driver with impaired. Less than four hours later at about 11:23 p.m., OPP say they charged a 33-year-old.
