    Donald Trump is expected to seek out a different kind of judicial nominee during his second term. The incoming president will rely less heavily on establishment Federalist Society conservatives as he seeks judges who will rule in his favor. He appointed 234 judges in his first term, a significant achievement for Republicans, but some proved a disappointment to Trump after blocking efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

    Donald Trump could appoint the first Asian American or Pacific Islander to serve on the US Supreme Court, though that’s unlikely to be the motivating factor should he make the historic selection. Diversity didn’t seem to be a primary concern for the former president in filling judicial vacancies while in office. He appointed fewer members of minority groups to the federal bench than any of his immediate predecessors and he’s given little indication that would change in a second term.

    The nation’s top food safety regulator has for decades left it up to manufacturers to decide whether their food ingredients are safe, sometimes with tragic results, a Bloomberg Law investigation reveals. Last year, nearly 400 people across the US fell ill after eating a lentil and leek meal shipped by the plant-based food company Daily Harvest. Some 133 people were hospitalized, and several had to have their gallbladders removed, government records show.
