ISTANBUL (AP) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday held a first meeting with pro-Kurdish politicians who are working to bring an end to the 40-year conflict between Turkey and Kurdish militants. Erdogan met Pervin Buldan and Sirri Sureyya Onder, parliamentary deputies for the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party, or DEM Party, at the presidential palace in Ankara. “It was a very positive meeting, it went well. We are much more hopeful,” Onder said.

ISTANBUL (AP) — As the dust settled on President Donald Trump’s tariffs, business figures and economists in Turkey have begun to glimpse a silver lining to the economic storm clouds. Turkey was hit with a baseline 10% tariff in Trump’s announcement last week, compared with higher tariffs for many other countries, raising the prospect that the world’s 17th largest economy could leverage an advantage from the tariff regime.

ISTANBUL (AP) — Two journalists were detained in dawn raids in Istanbul early Friday as part of a crackdown on media workers covering Turkey’s largest protests in more than a decade, their outlets reported. Elif Bayburt, who works for the Etkin News Agency, and Nisa Suda Demirel, from the Evrensel news website, were the latest to be arrested in early morning sweeps that have targeted political activists and trades’ unionists as well as journalists.

ISTANBUL (AP) — Turkey’s president on Wednesday accused the political opposition of “sinking the economy” during the country’s largest protests in more than a decade over the arrest of Istanbul’s mayor, the biggest challenger to Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s 22-year rule. The party of Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu has called for a boycott of companies that it says support Erdogan’s government.
