WBHM 90.3 FM and the Gulf States Newsroom have won a combined nine Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for 2025, including the highest award, Overall Excellence, for WBHM. The Radio Television Digital News Association announced Region 9 Edward R. Murrow Award winners in 23 categories May 22. Region 9 covers Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Regional winners automatically advance to the national competition. National winners will be announced in August.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced Thursday that he is running for U.S. Senate, seeking the position being vacated by Sen. Tommy Tuberville. Marshall, a Republican, announced his candidacy in a video that included multiple clips of him being introduced or praised by President Donald Trump.

The Alabama legislative session wrapped up this week, but not before some contentious debate in the final hours on Wednesday night. The bill at hand was one that would expand legal immunity to police officers under certain circumstances. It ultimately passed and was signed into law by Gov. Kay Ivey on Thursday. MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A new shark alert system, inspired by a teen who survived an attack last year, that warns beachgoers when a shark has bitten someone in the vicinity will be established in Alabama under legislation signed by Gov. Kay Ivey on Tuesday. The system will issue a public notice to cellphones when there’s been a shark attack nearby.
