    Let us begin, as all great French culinary accidents do, with two sisters, a misplaced apple and a frying pan full of hubris. The tarte Tatin—that gloriously upturned, caramel-kissed, rustic seductress of the dessert world and my personal favorite dessert—was not so much invented as rescued from disaster with typical Gallic flair.

    Last week, we dove into Paris, and this city is so important from a food and travel standpoint, we continue today with some more food thoughts and my hotel ideas. I mentioned La Tour d’Argent earlier, and I want to get my take on paper here. LTD is in many ways the essence of old Paris, (literally) perched like a gilded gargoyle above the Seine with its duck press, silver domes and a wine list that could seduce a monk. So why didn’t it make my list last week? Because love is complicated.
