The S&P Global UK Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for manufacturing, a measure of activity in British factories, slid to its lowest since October 2023, when Britain was in recession, as it dropped to 44.9 in March from 46.9 in February.

    April 1 (Reuters) - British house prices were flat in March and the market is likely to stay soft after a tax increase on property transactions, mortgage lender Nationwide said on Tuesday. A Reuters poll of economists had pointed to a 0.2% month-on-month increase. As of Tuesday, Britain's government has lowered the price threshold at which buyers become eligible to pay property transaction taxes - known as stamp duty.

    March 31 (Reuters) - British mortgage approvals cooled to a six-month low in February ahead of a rise in transaction taxes on many house purchases while consumer lending grew at the joint-slowest pace in nearly three years, Bank of England data showed on Monday. Lenders approved 65,481 mortgages in February, down from 66,041 in January. This was the lowest number since August and just below the median in a Reuters poll of economists which had pointed to approvals of 66,000.
