A Catholic school in Newcastle-upon-Tyne has been named Primary School of the Year in the Northeast 2025 by The Sunday Times Schools Guide. St Charles Catholic Primary School in Gosforth won the accolade in the annual Parent Power table of 1,600 state and independent schools across the UK. Leading Religious Education publishers are hoping new resources will help RE students in Catholic schools to engage with the Bible and bring faith “alive”. The third book of Source to Summit, designed for key stage three, ages 11-14, is due to be released in February 2025. Minh Ha Duong, RE publisher at Oxford University Press, hopes that the new Source to Summit will help students get to grips with Scripture passages.

The Benedictines became well known after the body of their founder, Sister Wilhelmina Lancaster, who died in 2019, was discovered well preserved in 2023. The order was welcomed by Archbishop Bernard Longley of the Archdiocese of Birmingham, England, who invited them to consider the property.
