The Government risked “throwing good money after bad” in its negotiations over the Scunthorpe steelworks, the Chancellor has said. Taking questions about whether ministers would bring the North Lincolnshire steelworks into public ownership, Rachel Reeves pledged that the Government would “play a big role” in its future. MPs gathered in Westminster last weekend, when Parliament was recalled from recess on a Saturday for the first time since the Falklands War in 1982.

The site, which is opposite the village’s cricket pitch, backs onto the gardens of properties on Gulliver’s Close. Permission in Principle is an alternative way of obtaining planning permission for housing-led developments, which is split into two stages. The first stage establishes whether a site is suitable in-principle.

Anyone planning to visit the Farthinghoe Waste Recycling Centre over the Easter weekend is being warned is it expected to be very busy. West Northamptonshire Council predict queues for visitors and acknowledge these can be frustrating, but ask that people be patient whilst their staff work hard to keep things moving. The site will be open throughout the weekend from 10am to 4pm, although there may be times when it needs to close temporarily to compact waste, or for traffic management.

Emergency services have been dealing with a shed and garage fire at a property opposite the Horton General Hospital in Banbury. Oxfordshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service were called at 11.28am. They sent three fire engines to the blaze in the Oxford Road, from Banbury, Hook Norton and Bicester fire stations. Fire crews currently remain at the scene. South Central Ambulance Service are also reported to have been called to the scene.

A friendship society, which organises social events and wellbeing support for people, has donated funding to purchase a £12,000 bladder scanner for the Horton General Hospital. Two members of the North Gloucestershire Oddfellows recently visited the hospital to see the equipment, which is now being used in the Emergency Department to help diagnose urinary retention and other bladder issues.
