This season has reminded me of a lab experiment. One where rats are lowered into a maze, and as they progress through they are given either a piece of cheese or an electric shock. And just as they think they’ve puzzled out the best way to trigger the cheese or avoid the shock, the rules seem to change and the opposite happens. Thankfully, Tuesday night was a cheese night. As for Friday, who knows? It’s got shocker written all over it on paper but then we thought that about Tuesday.

I am writing this following the Sheffield Wednesday game, so the collective shell shock is still reverberating. Quite how Johannes Hoff Thorup lifts his players before the game with Bristol City is beyond me, but with the television cameras watching, a reaction is demanded. Our opponents, however, are by no means going to make that easy.

A “technically brilliant” former Scotsman photographer, who documented Scotland’s news for six decades, has died aged 81. In a career spanning 61 years, 40 of which were spent at The Scotsman, Allan Milligan covered every aspect of Scottish life. Born in Kelloholm, Dumfriesshire on 16 April 1943, his journey started out sweeping the floor of the Cumnock Chronicle darkroom at the age of 15.

A photo of two spooked military horses galloping through central London is among the photographs up for an award decided by a public vote. The picture is one of 15, chosen by a panel of judges, from which people can vote for the IMAGO Photograph of the Year at the annual UK Picture Editors' Guild Awards. A picture of a smiling Princess of Wales , dressed in green, at Sandringham on Christmas Day is among the others shortlisted.

If the most successful manager in the history of the Championship does suddenly become available, I don’t think Knapper would have any choice but to make an approach. Whether he’d be receptive to a return is another matter. #ncfc

I think the big difference was that whilst Farke endured a few heavy defeats, or runs with limited wins, there was always a mix of draws in there. He never lost game in, game out, or got to the stage where things seemed hopeless. When JHT got to that point, he was done. #NCFC
