    Fun. This is something sorely lacking in many vehicles. Numerous autos become driving appliances destined for soul-sucking work commutes, boring errand runs, and dull drives from point A to B. Void of personality and enthusiasm, certain blenders are more interesting than some cars. When the modern MINI brand came to the U.S. market in 2002, it was like a vehicular superhero marque donning a winged logo with its name in ALL CAPS determined to interject fun into the market.

    The last vehicle you might expect at the Mint 400 is a purpose-built for desert racing Chevrolet Silverado EV ZR2. But Chevy and off-road racer Chad Hall have built this EV pickup using mostly production parts to show it can take a beating. Racing has long been a place for companies to test their products in harder-than-real-world conditions, where vehicles and parts can be pushed to their limits. The Mint 400, held in Primm, Nev., is one of those races.
