Tadej Pogacar narrowly failed to complete a stunning victory in his first attempt at Paris-Roubaix as Mathieu van der Poel powered to a third successive win over the famous cobbles. Paris-Roubaix is here. There is no other race in road cycling quite like it. France's iconic Monument one-day race is defined by its 30 cobblestone sectors, most of them coming in the race's second half. The misshapen pavé bullies bike and body alike, robbing speed and momentum. There is usually a fight to be in front before them, leading to some falls. If this storied 259.2km classic, first held in 1896, had been thought up today, it would be scoffed at on the grounds of health and safety.

The UCI need to introduce a rule that winners of races with trophies missing middles are required to pull wacky faces 😛 Look, the Milan-Sanremo trofeo is begging for the Jorgenson treatment https://t.co/SGbSG4NgJd

A nice auto-transcription from @otter_ai: "We can compare him with the greatest cyclist from 50 years ago, Eddie Murphy." Personally, I loved "the Cannibal's" career-defining showing in Beverly Hills Cop. https://t.co/eeJGy9pFbS
