ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Gov. Brian Kemp has signed a bill that bans a controversial method of teaching reading to Georgia’s public school students, as the state continues struggling to address its low literacy rates. The legislation comes amid Georgia’s literacy crisis, where just one in three fourth graders reads proficiently, according to state assessments. The most immediate change bans the use of three cueing as the primary method of reading instruction.
