WATERTOWN — A year after suffering a bitterly disappointing home loss to underdog Westmoreland in this game, Watertown appeared to be on the way to repeating its fate against Trousdale County in the Region 3-2A tournament opener Monday. But on a raining evening which was interrupted by a one-hour, 24-minute delay following the second inning, Reagan Way’s pinch-hit RBI single scored Zoey Thomas with the walk-off run as the Lady Purple Tigers knocked off their longtime rival 5-4.

NASHVILLE — Lebanon-native Dawson Sutton has achieved a lot of success since climbing behind the wheel of a race car three years ago. The jury is still out in his latest venture, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, which he began competing in less than a year ago and is running full time this season. But the needle is pointing up as the 19-year-old is coming off his first top-10 finish in his 13 starts, a ninth-place finish last week at Texas after qualifying 20th.

Mt. Juliet junior Chloe Younggren is one of 19 softball players on MaxPrep’s National Player of the Year watch list. She led Tennessee in home runs with 20 during the regular season, one ahead of Green Hill’s Avary Stockwell (each added a HR during the District 12-4A tournament and both teams remain alive going into the Region 6-4A tourney. Younggren batted .625 for the regular season with 11 games of three or more hits.
