Candidates vying for Maine’s open U.S. Senate seat debated in Kresge Auditorium this past Saturday, three days before voters headed to the polls on Tuesday. The debate featured Republican nominee Demi Kouzounas, Democratic nominee David Costello and Independent Jason Cherry, three out of the four candidates running for the office. Notably absent from the debate was incumbent independent senator and Brunswick resident, Angus King, who ultimately won the election.

France leads with its €2.4 billion offshore wind farm: The Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm in Brittany, France, has been put into service by Iberdrola. With a 496MW capacity, the €2.4 billion (£2 billion) project will supply sustainable energy to almost a million people in the area. There are just two offshore wind farms in France at this time. The project started in 2012 and finished up in 2024. It has 62 wind turbines, the most powerful in France to date, with an 8 MW output per.

Willi Lempert, an assistant professor of anthropology at Bowdoin, is using Google Earth to reimagine the history of Brunswick’s land and people. Over the past four years, Lempert, alongside a host of community members, Maine Indigenous organizations and Bowdoin students, has been crafting the Pejepscot Portage Mapping Project, an ambitious, thoughtful and highly collaborative effort that aims to trace how Native peoples moved through and interacted with the land that is now Brunswick.

On Wednesday, Seth Jaffe ’00, associate professor of the history of political thought at Luiss Guido Carli University in Rome, made his case in Lancaster Lounge for a new definition of populism. His definition requires more collaboration between political theorists and political scientists. According to Jaffe, while populism has various definitions, the term can be broken up into a liberal, democratic and national appeal.
