LAFAYETTE PARISH — Several AmeriCorps volunteers based in Lafayette have been dismissed following a directive from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), in accordance with an executive order issued by President Donald Trump. In a letter sent Tuesday to volunteers by the Trump-Vance administration, five volunteers from the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) were informed that the program was being demobilized and that they were required to return to their home base.

On Wednesday, Louisiana customers began receiving notifications from providers like Cox, which alerted them to a 10% sales tax now applied to TV and video streaming services. Customers were notified of a, "significant tax change" which would see customers paying additional charges on their upcoming bills.
