    Total resources of the Philippine financial system expanded by 7.27 percent to P33.611 trillion in February from P31.333 trillion a year earlier, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said on Tuesday. Compared with the month earlier, however, the financial system’s resources were down 0.14 percent from P33.658 trillion in January, BSP data showed.

    The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Tuesday said it is optimistic it will meet its collection target for the first quarter of the year. Preliminary data as of 10:30 am of March 31 showed the BIR’s collection in the first three months of 2025 was just  0.48 percent shy of the target. The numbers are still preliminary and will be finalized before the official revenue report is released, the BIR said.

    The Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) raised an initial P135 billion during the price-setting auc-tion for the new 10-year treasury notes on Tuesday. In a statement, the BTr said demand for the IOUs reached P197.305 billion, more than six times the minimum principal amount of P30 billion, prompting the BTr to upsize the ac-cepted amount for the auction.

    GROWTH in the Philippine economy may now lean toward the low instead of the high end of the government’s projected growth range for 2025 given the current global uncertainty, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said. In a press briefing in Pasig City on Monday, NEDA Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said a more realistic assumption is for the economy to grow closer to 6 percent, the low end of the 6 to 8 percent full-year growth forecast by the government.
