    The next generation (Nex-Gen) of professionals that will serve as authors, reviewers, editors, and journal staff are not going to be impressed with the tools we employ to facilitate scholarly publishing. Over the last several years, my team has focused much of our strategic thinking around what the expectations and characteristics are of those younger people in the scientific workforce and, more importantly, those coming into the workforce within the next 5-10 years.

Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., launched in 1980 with Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News, a media brand dedicated to cutting edge research. Since then, the publisher has launched over 100 peer-reviewed journals on hot topics like The CRISPR Journal, AI in Precision Oncology, and Autism in Adulthood.

    Today I am revisiting my very first Scholarly Kitchen post from December of 2013. In that post, I was commenting on the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) Public Access Memo, known now as the Holdren Memo. The Holdren Memo called for all federal agencies with over $100 million in annual R&D spending to develop public access policies for journal accepted content that reports on federally funded research.

The Supreme Court‘s opinion in the Virginia voter purge case is more deeply unsettling than it appears on the surface. It is about only 1600 voters, a significant portion probably perfectly legal. But right wing justices completely blew away the express language of the law. 1
