A long-serving firefighter from North Staffordshire has spoken of his emotional last day in service after 41 years. Keith Davies has hung up his helmet after joining Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service back in 1982. Keith's first day of service was in September 1982, going on to become a crew manager in 1986 and then a watch manager at Ashley and then latterly at Loggerheads Community Fire Station.

Work is set to begin on building a new outpatients building to replace the old one at Haywood Hospital, which was demolished due to the presence of crumbling concrete in the roof. Construction is due to start on the new development this month, after the scheme was given the go ahead. It has been funded from £17.4m allocated to the Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust by NHS England via its national Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) eradication programme.

Staffordshire Police are reported to be attending an incident on Corporation Street in Stoke-on-Trent this afternoon (January 21). StokeonTrentLive is getting reports of police and forensics on scene at Corporation Street at the junction with Yeaman Street. An eye witness, who did not wish to be named, said they had seen a police car along with forensics officers.

A young couple have told how their long-awaited trip to Poland turned into a nightmare - after they were given Turkish Lira instead of Polish Zloty (PLN). Paris Kelly, 20, and Marc Mcgeachy, 21, had been planning the trip for six months and were gutted when the gaffe left them without money to pay for a taxi to their hotel or to buy food once they landed. The couple were excited to jet off for a week in Poland on 5 January.
