A long-serving firefighter from North Staffordshire has spoken of his emotional last day in service after 41 years. Keith Davies has hung up his helmet after joining Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service back in 1982. Keith's first day of service was in September 1982, going on to become a crew manager in 1986 and then a watch manager at Ashley and then latterly at Loggerheads Community Fire Station.

Work is set to begin on building a new outpatients building to replace the old one at Haywood Hospital, which was demolished due to the presence of crumbling concrete in the roof. Construction is due to start on the new development this month, after the scheme was given the go ahead. It has been funded from £17.4m allocated to the Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust by NHS England via its national Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) eradication programme.

A young couple have told how their long-awaited trip to Poland turned into a nightmare - after they were given Turkish Lira instead of Polish Zloty (PLN). Paris Kelly, 20, and Marc Mcgeachy, 21, had been planning the trip for six months and were gutted when the gaffe left them without money to pay for a taxi to their hotel or to buy food once they landed. The couple were excited to jet off for a week in Poland on 5 January.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning as Storm Isha is set to hit Stoke-on-Trent and the rest of the UK over today and tomorrow. The storm is set to cause disruption to travel and utilities, with a yellow weather warning of wind issued for Stoke-on-Trent. Storm Isha is set to bring with it strong winds from today (January 21), with people urged to take care, as the Met Office warns that injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has responded to calls for a review into cost of living payment rules. Around eight million people are due to receive the third and final payment in February. Those eligible through claiming certain means-tested benefits are set to get the final cost of living payment, worth £299, some time between February 6 and February 22.

Police have issued a warning to children to stay away from frozen water following reports of youngsters 'playing' on ice in Stoke-on-Trent. Emergency services attended reports of youngsters running or walking on frozen water in several places earlier this week. Incidents were reported at Burslem Park on Moorland Road, Holden Lane Pools Nature Reserve on Leek New Road, and Central Forrest Park on Chell Street, Hanley, between 3.30pm and 4.30pm on Thursday (January 18).
