    The union representing the fire rangers with the Ministry of Natural Resources says money won’t fix the systemic problems in the workplace. The provincial and federal governments recently provided a combined $64 million to strengthen Ontario’s Wildland Fire program. Minister Graydon Smith made the announcement at the MNR hanger in Sault Ste Marie.

    Construction has begun on an expansion to Finlandia Village in Greater Sudbury. Saturday marked the official sod-turning ceremony at the seniors’ housing campus for what will be its seventh expansion since it was first created 40 years ago. The last expansion was 13 years ago. Dignitaries were on hand for the event -- including Hanna-Leena Korteniemi, Ambassador of Finland to Canada.

    A large seniors housing campus in Greater Sudbury is expanding. It’s the first construction project for Finlandia Village in 12 years. More than 400 residents live in the six housing options, including the 110-bed long-term care facility. Plans include building an extension to the current long-term care building, adding 32 beds on the main level and 20 apartments for seniors on the upper two levels.
