Greater Sudbury is purchasing property for its new events centre downtown. The plan is to build the facility in what’s called the South District, a triangle of land within Elgin, Paris and Brady streets. It already bought businesses that had been located in the area and the Wacky Wings on Shaughnessy Street was the final one. The business is still open, but by March it will be vacated and the building demolished.

Felicity Altiman, 43, is on trial at the Sudbury Courthouse in the stabbing death of Robert 'Bob' Keskinen, who was 75 when his body was found.

A referee and a young player testified Tuesday at a trial of a Sudbury police officer charged with uttering threats to cause bodily harm and causing a disturbance. Melissa Rancourt, 50, is on trial in connection with an incident at a hockey game Feb. 11 this year when she was head coach of an under-13 team in Espanola. Rancourt has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
