Wayne State Student Senate met Dec. 5 to discuss the library system, emeritus memberships, vacancies, project groups and a College of Nursing report. Interim Assistant Dean Mike Hawthorne said the Purdy-Kresge Library will have extended study hours from Sun-Thurs at 11 a.m. to 2 a.m beginning Jan. 12. “We thought long and hard whether it made sense from an economic standpoint to have it open 24/7,” Hawthorne said.

The Philadelphia Police Department has issued a call for assistance in the search for Ryleigh Gnoski, a 16-year-old girl reported missing since Monday. According to the official police report, Gnoski was last seen at around 9:45 PM in the vicinity of the 41xx block of L Street. Described as 5’3 tall and 130 lbs, with hazel eyes and black hair, Ryleigh's last known outfit consisted of black pants and a bodysuit.

Wayne State’s Student Senate discussed WSU’s public health program, approved a new mission statement, provided updates on bylaws and potential student legal services in its first semester meeting last Thursday. Vice President of Health Affairs at WSU Dr. Mark Schweitzer presented updates on WSU’s efforts to create a school of public health. Schweitzer said 95% of public health graduate students go to graduate schools for public health.

Wayne State University hosted FestiFall last Sunday as part of its annual Fall Opening, which was met with a rally held by Students for Justice in Palestine. FestiFall, an event to give students an opportunity to connect with Wayne State departments and organizations, was scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., SJP started the rally that ended around 6:00 p.m. WSU police officers stood between protesters and the more than 500 student organizations, departments, and resource tables.
