SANTA MONICA— From Ocean Park to Culver Boulevard, thousands of Westside residents turned out Saturday to join the nation for the “No Kings Day of Defiance.”In Santa Monica, where city officials had braced for the worst, the day remained peaceful. Some businesses along the Third Street Promenade boarded up storefronts ahead of the protests, and the city launched a live blog to monitor activity in real time. But as of Saturday afternoon, there was no sign of unrest.

MARINA DEL REY - The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved an Exclusive Negotiating Agreement (ENA) with Mercy Housing Corporation to build a 100% affordable housing project at 4206 Admiralty Way on April 1. The site is currently a roughly 90,000 square foot, county-owned parking lot adjacent to the Hilton Garden Inn to the west and the Oxford Basin to the east.

On April 3, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, citing an emergency caused by “uncharacteristically severe wildfires, insect and disease outbreaks, invasive species, and other stressors” issued a memorandum opening up 112,646,000 acres of national forest land (59% of the country’s total national forest acreage) to logging. The memorandum, signed by USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, includes a map indicating that all of Southern California’s local forests will be subject to the new order.
