The Federal Court has blocked Mayfair 101 boss James Mawhinney from scrapping key claims by the corporate regulator, but has succeeded in having elements of the agency’s earlier case re-examined. Justice David O’Callaghan dismissed two applications made by Mr Mawhinney on Friday, but granted his request to block evidence from the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

Sydney has taken out the top spot as Australia’s metropolitan area with the most recognised lawyers, says global ratings service Best Lawyers. The directory has published its annual list of Australia’s top legal talent and rising industry stars of 2025 selected by peer review, with some the country’s top tier law firms keen to highlight their inclusion. Firms are also recognised for their peer-rated performance across practice areas in the list published this week.

For many years, Oregon has been the American poster child of drug decriminalisation. In 1973 it became the first state in the country to decriminalise cannabis. In 2020, it was the first state to decriminalise small amounts of hard drugs such as heroin, fentanyl and cocaine. It did this through the Drug Addiction Treatment and Recovery Act, which was passed by a referendum. The aim was to shift drug use from a criminal justice issue to a public health one.

Polynovo (ASX:PNV) hasannounced that the Indian government has approved NovoSorb BTM to be included in the Government-e-Marketplace (GeM) portal. GeM is a centralised procurement platform for government hospitals that can now buy NovoSorb BTM throughout India.

Reward Minerals (ASX:RWD) is back in the spotlight on Tuesday. Earlier, it rose on the news it had entered into a binding share sale agreement with the receivers at Kalium Lakes, to acquire the $400 million Beyondie sulphate of potash (SOP) project for $20 million. That’s a WA project, about 160 km SE of Newman and SOP is a compound commonly used in agriculture – in fertilisers.
